News trading rules often sound simpler than they are. A firm may let a position stay open through a central-bank decision or inflation release, yet restrict orders placed around the announcement. Those are different permissions, and confusing them can turn a valid market view into a rule breach.
The5ers’ High Stakes guidance says holding open trades over news is allowed, but it restricts order execution around high-impact releases. The important detail is not just the timing window: the firm also says profits made during that period are deducted, while losses are absorbed by the trader. Here is how to read the published rule, build a safer pre-news routine, and check the rest of the account conditions before paying for an evaluation.
1. The key distinction: holding a position versus executing an order
Can I hold a The5ers High Stakes trade through news?
Yes. The firm’s High Stakes general-rules FAQ says: “Holding open trades over the news is allowed on all of our programs”. In other words, the published rule does not automatically require every open position to be closed just because a high-impact event is approaching.
That does not mean every action around the release is permitted. The same FAQ sets a separate restriction on executing orders near the event. Read the whole paragraph, not just the sentence that allows holding, and confirm the conditions for the exact account you intend to buy.
What do The5ers news trading rules restrict?
The firm states: “Executing orders 2 minutes before until 2 minutes after high-impact news is prohibited.” That is an execution restriction around the release, not a blanket instruction to flatten every existing trade beforehand. The source says the firm follows server time and refers traders to Forex Factory’s economic calendar.
The published wording matters. It does not spell out every possible order type or platform-specific edge case in that paragraph. Avoid assuming that a pending order, stop adjustment, partial close, or automated action is treated a particular way unless the firm confirms it in writing.
What is the difference between news holding and news execution?
Holding means carrying a position that was already open; execution means an order being carried out. The5ers’ news-trading FAQ draws the line at the moment of execution: “the rule applies to the exact moment an order is triggered and executed, not when the pending order was placed.” It adds: “Any pending order that triggers inside a restricted news window will be treated as a news trading violation.”
Think ahead about what the platform might do without another click. Pending entries are covered by that note. If an attached stop or target can trigger during the restricted interval, ask support how that situation is assessed and save the answer with the rule page.
2. Understanding the restricted time window
When does the restricted news window begin and end?
The High Stakes FAQ describes the restricted interval as beginning 2 minutes before a high-impact release and extending until 2 minutes after it. Read that alongside its separate instruction that server time is used. The point is to identify the event time in the firm’s reference frame, not to rely on a phone clock or a calendar set to a different zone. Official rule.
A quick pre-trade check should include the event time, the calendar’s displayed time zone, the platform/server time and any daylight-saving difference. If those clocks do not agree, pause and resolve the difference before trading. Guessing the conversion is a preventable operational risk.
How should I use the economic calendar?
The5ers’ own FAQ points to Forex Factory. Its calendar labels expected event impact and displays event times, but the page notes that times are approximate and subject to change. Treat the calendar as a planning aid; confirm the event and time zone rather than assuming that a screenshot taken earlier will stay accurate.
Build a short watchlist for the instruments you trade. Note the event, displayed time zone and server-time equivalent, then recheck near the release in case the schedule changes.
What if a release time changes or the calendar is unclear?
If timing is unclear because a release is delayed or a calendar entry changes, do not guess. The published rule does not explain every unusual case; stand aside around the possible window and ask the firm.
Record the event, calendar time, platform time and source. This creates a review trail instead of relying on memory after a volatile session.
3. The asymmetric outcome: profits and losses are treated differently
Can profits from the restricted news window count toward my target?
The5ers’ FAQ says: “Any profits made at this time will be deducted from the account and won’t go towards your target.” Profits made in the restricted window are therefore deducted and do not contribute to evaluation progress.
A gain displayed on the platform may not count toward evaluation progress if it was made during the prohibited interval. Read the rule before planning a news-based strategy.
What happens if the trade loses during the restricted window?
The same paragraph states: “Losses will be absorbed by you.” The rule therefore describes an asymmetry: profits made during that window are removed and do not count toward the target, while losses are not similarly reversed in the trader’s favour. The exact handling of unusual cases should be confirmed with The5ers, but the published statement is clear enough to discourage deliberate execution during the window.
The distinction matters because a longer-term market thesis can be right while a prohibited execution still creates a rule and accounting problem. Market direction alone does not determine whether the trade qualifies.
How should I think about a trade that crosses the release?
Separate the market thesis from the rule exposure. Ask whether the position already exists, whether an order could execute during the restricted period, and whether your intended exit or risk controls can be triggered then. Do not assume that a position opened earlier makes every later execution compliant.
If the answer depends on an order type or a platform behaviour the FAQ does not define, obtain written guidance. This article is explaining the published wording, not adding a rule about stop orders, take-profits, pending orders, or automated execution. The firm’s support response and the current terms for the purchased account should decide those edge cases.
4. News timing does not replace drawdown discipline
What are the High Stakes daily and overall loss limits?
The5ers’ drawdown FAQ, updated September 15, 2026, states that maximum loss is 10% of initial balance and daily drawdown is 5%, calculated from the previous day’s closing equity or balance, whichever is higher. The firm’s example shows a $100,000 account at $110,000 equity before rollover; the next daily loss allowance is $5,500, placing the stated breach level at $104,500.
A day-end snapshot can change the next daily limit. Don’t manage only from closed balance when floating P&L matters. The FAQ says reaching either limit terminates the account, so leave a buffer.
Why can floating equity matter after rollover?
The5ers explains that, when a trade is carried into the next day, the daily-loss snapshot uses the higher of balance and equity. Its example says a $105,000 balance with equity at $104,000 due to a floating loss is assessed using the $105,000 balance level. Source: drawdown FAQ.
An open trade can therefore leave the daily threshold based on a number that is not current equity. Add rollover to your checklist when holding positions across volatile sessions; a calendar alert does not replace checking live drawdown.
What is a safer pre-news risk routine?
Before a release, check the current calendar, align its time zone with server time, review open orders and stops, and decide whether your strategy can operate without restricted execution. If you cannot answer clearly, stand aside.
Separately, calculate your current distance from the daily and overall loss limits. Avoid treating the maximum permitted drawdown as a risk budget to spend. Slippage, spreads, commissions and floating losses can make the practical buffer smaller than the headline percentage suggests. This is a risk-management recommendation, not a claim that The5ers publishes a specific required buffer.
5. Other High Stakes conditions worth checking before buying
Is there a time limit to complete the evaluation?
The general-rules FAQ describes High Stakes as a two-step evaluation with unlimited time to complete it. It also states that an evaluation account becomes inactive-expired after 30 consecutive days without activity, while a funded account’s inactivity limit is 60 consecutive days. Those are different conditions: unlimited evaluation time does not mean an account can sit unused indefinitely. Source: The5ers general-rules FAQ.
If you trade only around occasional events, include the inactivity clock in the plan. Unlimited time to hit the target does not mean the account can remain dormant indefinitely.
What are the payout conditions after funding?
The High Stakes payout policy, updated September 14, 2026, says payouts cannot be processed during the two-phase evaluation. Once funded, payout requests can be submitted bi-weekly through the dashboard. The page lists a $3,000 payout cap and $300 minimum P&L for the $50K account, and a $4,000 cap and $500 minimum P&L for the $100K account.
The policy says 70% of the refundable fee is added to funded-account equity and may be returned with the first payout if its activity and profit conditions are met. Read the full policy; this is not described as an upfront cash refund.
Should I rely on a price banner?
On October 13, 2026, the official High Stakes page displayed the banner “Limited Time Offer! Industry’s Lowest $100K For $149”. We could not find it when we checked again on October 15. Promotional wording like this changes without notice and is not a guarantee that every configuration, region, currency, or checkout will show the same final amount. Before paying, select the exact plan and account size and verify the final checkout total and terms.
Promotional pricing is only one input. A low fee does not change the news rule, drawdown, payout terms or risk of losing the evaluation fee. Choose based on rule fit, not urgency.
6. Turn the published rule into a repeatable workflow
What belongs on a pre-news checklist?
Before the session, write down the event and time zone, convert it to server time, check open positions and working orders, and confirm the current distance to daily and overall loss limits. Recheck the calendar before the release. If you cannot identify how an order may execute during the restricted window, do not assume it is permitted.
What records should I keep if a rule question comes up?
Keep the exact rule page, the calendar entry and its displayed time zone, your platform/server time, and any written support clarification. These notes do not guarantee a particular decision, but they make your process easier to review than relying on memory after a volatile move.
How do I know whether a news strategy fits this account?
Compare required entries and exits with the restricted window and drawdown limits. A setup that depends on prohibited execution may not fit, even if the market thesis is sound. Ask about unresolved edge cases before buying.

FAQ
Does The5ers ban holding every trade during high-impact news?
No. The High Stakes FAQ says holding open trades over news is allowed, while restricting order execution in the specified window. Those are separate rules; check the complete wording for your chosen account.
Does the restricted window use my local time?
The published FAQ says server time is used. Align the event calendar and platform/server time before relying on a time conversion.
Are pending orders and automatic stop-outs explained in the FAQ?
Partly. The5ers’ news-trading FAQ says a pending order that triggers inside the restricted window is treated as a news trading violation. The cited paragraph does not detail every order type or execution scenario, such as attached stops or targets. Ask The5ers support for a written clarification on the exact order behaviour you use.
Does a $100K-for-$149 style banner guarantee my checkout price?
No. Promotional banners come and go (we could not find the one we saw on October 13 when we checked again on October 15), so verify the selected account, eligible configuration and final checkout total before payment.
Can a profitable news trade still fail to count toward my target?
Yes. The published rule says profits made during the restricted period are deducted and will not go toward the target. A positive result alone does not override the rule.
